Wednesday, June 16, 2010 Bates Family Funeral Home Obituary: Nicholas Wade Shumake of De Kalb, Texas, passed away Friday, June 11, 2010 at Albert Pike, Arkansas. He was 8 years old. Nick was born October 8, 2001 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. He was a second grader at James Bowie Elementary School and a member of Pinkham Memorial Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by his parents, Tony and Barbara Shumake of De Kalb, Texas; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lacey and Trey Mullins of De Kalb, Texas and Kelsey and Levi McDermott of New Boston, Texas; a grandfather, Thomas Reese of Omaha, Texas; great grandmothers, Caroline Carson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Alver Shumake of De Kalb, Texas; Aunts and Uncles, Wade and Debbie Shumake, Tracey and David Carter and Kathy and John Browning; four nieces, Hanna Mullins, Hayden Mullins, Livia McDermott and Jalena McDermott; three great uncles and two great aunts, Roger Shumake of Texarkana, Texas, Henry and Kathy Freeman of Avery, Texas and Bobby and Juanella Freeman of Simms, Texas; and several cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Lynn and Wilene Shumake; a grandmother, Loretta Reese; a great grandfather, Edward Carson; and a brother, Timothy Shumake. Visitation will be 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at Bates Family Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the De Kalb High School Gymnasium with Rev. Don McPherson, Rev. Roddy Jackson, Rev. John Marlar and Rev. Joe Helms officiating. Interment will follow at Woodmen Cemetery. My wife and I were at Albert Pike Camp Grounds on Wednesday June 9, 2010 and fell in love with (our new little friend) little Nicholas. A more beautiful smile would be hard to find. It captured our hearts. I can only imagine how much he'll be missed by all who new him. We were only around him for a few hours and our hearts are broken and are saddened by this tragic loss. Even though I did not know little Nicholas, from reading his memoriam it's clear that he will be missed by everyone. My heart goes out to the entire family, but especially his mother. I can't express what I'm feeling in words because I have not experienced the lost of a child, but in my heart I feel a empty void for you. But just remember that God knows best and it was just time for Nicholas to go to his heavenly home where he at peace. Just hold on to those precious moments that u and Nicholas shared and they will get u through all of this.

I know that he was an angel in your life and I am very glad that I was able to share that with you and Tony. I wish that I had been able to keep in contact with you after I left.
