Saturday, June 12, 2010 Bates Family Funeral Home Obituary: Mrs. Evelyn Carolyn Hawkins of De Kalb, Texas passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Sunny Acres Nursing Center. She was 73. Evelyn was born October 30, 1936 in Rosenburg, Texas to Arnold and Olivia Woerner Roos. She was a Registered Nurse and a member of First United Methodist Church, De Kalb, Texas and United Methodist Women's Organization. She is survived by her mother, Olivia Dora Roos of Fredricksburg, Texas; a son, James D. "Jimmy" Hawkins, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida; a daughter and son-in-law, Holly Anne Hawkins Chamberlain and Pete Chamberlain of Commerce, Texas; a brother, Louis Roos of Kileen, Texas; two grandchildren, Olivia and Autumn Hawkins of Jacksonville, Florida; several nieces and nephews and a special cousin, Carolyn Liles Voss of De Kalb, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Douglas Hawkins, Sr. and a daughter-in-law, Anita Hawkins. Visitation will be 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Bates Family Funeral Home. Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 13, 2010 at First United Methodist Church, De Kalb, Texas with Rev. Tony Hoefner officiating. I am president of the senior class of 1954 of Schulenburg High School where Evelyn graduated. We have a class reunion every 5 years. I lost track of Evelyn when she moved from Fort Worth, and was not able to send her invitations. I tried to locate her several times over the years, with no success, until now. Evidently I clicked the right buttons this time.
On behalf of the Schulenburg High School Class of 1954, I would like to extend our sincere condolences to her family.
