Saturday, January 14, 2012 Bates Family Funeral Home Obituary: Cleo Tidwell Mathews, of Simms, Texas, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012, in Texarkana, Texas. She was 98. Cleo was born August 1, 1913, to M.M. and Stella Barnes Tidwell. She was a retired School Teacher from Simms ISD, a member of Texas Retired Teachers Association, Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Simms First Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday School Teacher and Church Secretary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Mathews; three sisters, Hazel Adams, Helen Orr, and Geraldine Tidwell; and a brother, William “Buddy” Tidwell. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kathy Mathews of Simms, Texas; a grandson, Luke Mathews of Simms, Texas; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Adene Myers of Texarkana, Texas and Marzell and Harold Johnson of Lone Star, Texas; two granddaughters and their husbands, Heather and Jeremy Abston of Naples, Texas; and Kourtney and Clint Tucker of Simms, Texas; 6 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 15, 2012, at Simms First Baptist Church with Revs. Millidge Oglesby, A.M. Adams, Tracy Wilkes, Steve Minter and Johnny Murphy officiating. Interment will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Bates Family Funeral Home.
