Obituary:
Mr. Allman Dan Atchley passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at his home in De Kalb, Texas. He was 86.

Allman Dan was born June 16, 1924 in De Kalb, Texas. He was a Retired Production Controller with Red River Army Depot, a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and a member of First United Methodist Church in De Kalb, Texas.

He was preceded in death by a son, Danny Wayne Atchley in 1989; a sister, Mildred A. Babb; and two brothers, Clendon S. Atchley and Don H. Atchley. He was a member of the De Kalb Masonic Lodge #9, Scottish Rite, and Hella Shrine. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 488 of New Boston, and retired from the Army National Guard after 22 years. He was a retired football referee and a member of the Southwest Football Officials Association. Allman Dan was a former De Kalb City Councilman and received the Noble Award from the De Kalb Chamber of Commerce. He was a special volunteer cook for many years at the annual Hubbard School Fishfry and a regular performer in the annual De Kalb Oktoberfest Cabaret Show.

Survivors include his wife, Lenora Deus Atchley of De Kalb, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Diann and Chuck Blevins of Dumas, Arkanasas; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and George Huckabay of Midland, Texas; a grandaughter, Ashley Waldrup of Camden, Arkansas; two great grandsons, Tristan and Gage Waldrup and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, February 18, 2011 at Bates Family Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday, February 19, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in De Kalb, Texas with Rev. Doug Wintermute and Robby Bates officiating. Interment will follow at Woodmen Cemetery.

Our family is so saddened about Mr.Dan. He was such a sweet man to our family. We have so many wonderful memories of him from when Charles and I lived on NOLAN St. to the time we spent at softball fields watching the Blue Angels play ball. We will always treasure ,in our hearts, those special memories of Mr. Dan. Diann and Mrs.Nora you are in our thoughts and prayers.
